Hi,

I am not a big pub drinker, i mainly drink in the house... The thing is though that alot of times recently when i am going to buy alcohol i feel anxious or "rushed" its a hard feeling to explain - probably because i know i shouldnt be buying it, and other people know i am an alcoholic and i get paranoid of people seeing me buying it...

I know to take the naltrexone an hour before consuming alcohol - but im wondering should i take it even before making the trip to buy the alcohol to eliminate this part of the behaviour aswell - or does it not work like this/have nothing to do with it?

also this may be a rediculous question, but every single time i drink i seem to go on to facebook and talk total non-sense... i never go onto facebook unless im drinking which is strange, in which case then as soon as i start drinking im right on there making an @ss of myself...

do you think the nal can combat this behaviour aswell if it seems to be some way associated with the drinking or am i asking too much?

Hi there and welcome aboard!
First I must say it: I'm not a doctor. I simply use Nal associated with the Sinclair Method, just like you. But it seems to me that I've been on this journey longer than you.
The answer IMHO is no. As far as I know, Nal has nothing to do with anxiety.

I hate when people notice that I'm about to go on a binge as well, but Nal has no effects on anxiety. I never felt anything related to that so far.

Just keep up with TSM and be pacient. The more noticeable effects of this treatment only appear after a few months. For some they show up by the 4th or 5th month, but for others it takes longer. Just keep it up.
Kudos.

Its not necessarily the anxiety i want to kill but was wondering if in some way there is something happening bio-chemically when i go to buy alcohol... i never experience this feeling other than going to the store to buy alcohol and walking home with it so was wondering if possibly naltrexone would help with taking away/loosing interest even in the activity of walking to the place of purchase

Remember, what we are doing here is extinguishing bad behaviors related to AL consumption that we learned to do really well.

The way I like to look at this is that if there is a behavior associated with my alcohol consumption that I think I need to extinguish, I make sure I have NAL in my system before I do it. If this means taking NAL before I go to the liquor store, then I take my NAL wait an hour and then goto the liquor store and buy the AL and then drink. This is why I recently made the comment that at the beginning of TSM, a person should just take NAL every day. It's hard to know when the addictive behavior associated with our drinking starts (i.e., when we go buy the AL or when we actually take the drink). Therefore, why not play it safe and just have NAL in your system all of the time until you start seeing some real results. Once we start to see results, then we can go AF for a few days and stop NAL for this time to let the NAL wash out of our systems
