I attempted to reorder Nal from River Pharm and got this email back:

"Thank you for your recent order with River Pharmacy.



Recently there has been a change of regulations in exporting pharmaceuticals from India.



India customs is now asking for a prescription for medications. If you have a prescription, please email it to sender or fax to our toll free fax line: 1-866-453-9993.



However, we realize that many of our customers will not have a prescription. In this case all we need is the name and address of a family doctor or a doctor that you recently visited. (India will NOT be contacting your doctor-it is just red tape).



If possible, please get a prescription the next time you visit your doctor and send it to us then.



As soon as we comply with India customs, your order will be on shipped. If you have questions call us at 1-888-848-1945."

I was wondering if anyone else has got this and if you provided them the information requested. I'm thinking that I may try to order from United since they are out of Hong Kong.

I bought my Nal from River a couple of weeks ago, but wasn't asked for a prescription! This rule must be really new!

Now, I am getting worried. I live in the UK, and although I regularly see an NHS specialist (psychiatrist), he doesn't want to prescribe Nal to me (but he's happy to monitor my progress). I am quite sure he wouldn't mind being contacted by the Indian authorities, but wouldn't be happy to write a prescription...

I am not sure why they are so confident that the authorities would never contact your doctors...??

I COULD go and see Prof Chick in Edinburgh... but online purchasing is much easier (and probably cheaper) and I have been very happy with River so far...

Anyway, I too am interested in this, so will keep an eye on this thread!

I also ordered, for the first time, recently and received the same email you posted. I replied with the name and address of a doctor I've seen regularly. To cover my a** I used a Visa "gift card" that had a limit on the card, but yeah... fingers crossed.

I am Debbie from River Pharmacy so wanted to answer your questions. India has hired an ADC (Alcohol Drug Controller) to work in combination with customs.
They are now asking us to get a prescription from our customers. The whole industry has turned upside down. I am sure they are getting pressure from Big Pharma.
River is trying to find a Doctor who will work with patients needing medications for addiction and who will write a Rx. As soon as I have any further information I will post it.

We feel bad for our customers who are counting on us. If anyone on the forum hears of a Dr in USA or UK or Aus that is sympathetic to our cause, please let me know.
Of course, any customer who would like to cancel their order in the interim (until we find a Doctor) that is perfectly OK. Just call us and we will look after you.

Oh god, this really makes me very worried. I was just about to order from River as I have only about 30 tabs left. Like many, I can't get this addiction thing in my medical history - too many repercussions, both current and potential. What to do??? If I must I know I can go AF for a few weeks/months but it does not sound like a long-term solution. There are Canadian pharmacies but the prices there is 7-10 times higher.

Alldaychemist is, of course, also in India. That's where I was ordering before River matched their price on Naltrexone. Does anyone know if they are similarly affected? (Based on what Debbie wrote, they should but maybe there is a chance they managed to do something about it?).

United Pharm out of Hong Kong seems to be a viable option. I have used them before and placed another order with them two days ago. If I run into any problems I'll post an update. Also they are price competitive with River.

Diver, could you do us all a favor and post back regardless of what happened? If your order goes through, I would definitely want to know that for sure. I emailed United yesterday asking if they have problem with stuff from India and no reply yet (well, it's Saturday).

Okay, just got the email reply from UnitedPharmacies.com :



I asked them if they arrange for shipping from India or if they stock locally. I take the reply to mean that they have local stock that they can ship without the problems that now exist in India.

Ordered 120 tabs. I like the website - well thought out and organized. Beats the clumsiness of Alldaychemist by a mile!

Here is an update from Debbie at River. River Pharmacy has been able to fill all orders for Naltrexone. It is very helpful to us if you can give us the name of a family doctor, or a doctor you visited within the last 12 months. We need a Doctor on file, however this information remains confidential. In the meantime, we may have a Doctor who will work with us and I have indicated to him that we have many customers wanting Naltrexone for addiction. Because the FDA has approved naltrexone for that purpose, there should be no problem. We appreciate your patience while we meet the obligations of India customs and we are doing our best for you so that you won't be without the medication.
