Just read a couple of posts on here that suggest that if you aren't a daily drinker than TSM might not work or it could take longer.... Can anyone let me know where this is covered in the book? I drink about 3x a week. The problem is that when i do drink I can't control when to stop. The day after drinking I usually have no urge to drink, mostly because my hangover makes me feel so icky.

lolo1976, I'm just like you! I also drink few times a week (once or twice) and am concerned about how long and how effective TSM may work for me. I'm glad I found someone to discuss this.

I started taking Nal on August 3, 2011. Never daily, it was through TSM since the beggining. I never could read Dr. Eskapa's book, but only the free material available here.

I was so anxious that I started my treatment as soon as I got the medicine. The only thing I checked out before doing it was reading the directions that come with it, which simply recommends the 50 mg pattern dosage. And so I started taking 50 mg of Nal one hour before drinking since the very first time!
Guess what? I had NO bad reactions, except the nausea everybody seems to experiment in the 2 or 3 first times. Only after I found out that most people here in TSM.com have very bad reactions to Nal, so that many ones keep up with the 25 mg dosage they took in the first time.
At that moment I got confused and afraid that something could be wrong in my treatment. I had NO bad reactions (only that nausea in my 2 or 3 first times). My doctor said there would be no problem to double the dosage. So I started taking 100 mg of Nal.

This is where I wanted to get: since the very first time I took 100 mg, it was a giant stride in the progress of my treatment! For over ten years I had tried to stop my binges before dawn, never succeding. With 100 mg I've already done it eight times up to now!
Quite fast, wasn't it?

Hi Lolo and LW. I'm not a daily drinker and that was one of my first questions about TSM. When I met with my PA (Physician's Assistant) she said Nal would work for my situation and my goal to stick to no more than 2 units per night on the nights I do drink. I've been drinking for YEARS - usually with this pattern of weekend binging, although some weeks more than 2x/week - so I'll be curious how long the process takes. So far, 4 weeks in, I'm very pleased with the process. Good luck and nal on!

TSM and nal are for everyone, whether you are a daily drinker or a binger. I'm a 2-3 times a week drinker, sometimes moderate but once in a while still out of hand. I think that for some people who drink VERY infrequently, TSM might take longer because you have fewer opportunities to extinguish your drinking triggers. However, that's if you're drinking like, once a month, in my mind. You should be fine.

I was a binge drinker, perhaps once or twice a week although at certain points I did lapse into daily drinking.

Naltrexone has been extremely successful for me, and I now consider myself cured. I drink what I want, which isn't much most of the time. I'm no longer really that interested in alcohol!

One thing to note is that I did notice I started drinking more often at first. This was a result of realising I no longer had to 'hold out' 'til the next binge. My drinking suddenly became quite 'safe', so I then allowed myself to drink whenever it took my fancy. Overtime this corrected itself and I didn't allow this to become a new habit.

Just don't panic if this happens!
