Hello Everyone

I started the Sinclair Method last night on Saturday 21st at 21:09 with 50mg of Nalorex (Naltrexone Hydrochloride), I have two questions for you which really need to ask:

1. How much time does 50mg of Naltrexone take to leave my body and when would it be safe to start physical activity like running and car driving etc?

2. On Page 117, The Cure For Alcoholism , it mentioned

“Be alert that, even very early in your treatment, you may occasionally experience a surprising ability to stop after only a couple of drinks. However, this decrease in drinking and craving is merely an artifact of the treatment”.

I only had about 4.55 units of alcohol before I found myself putting away the 2 bottles and unable to drink further. Is this quite bad to take such a dosage of Naltrexone with minuscule amounts of alcohol?

Thank you for reading my post

Raze

Welcome Raze, to answer your questions, I wouldn't worry about avoiding exercise while on nal. As for driving, if you experience a little spaciness after taking nal the first few times that might be a concern until you get used to it. Also nal can make you feel more intoxicated on less alcohol but the naltrexone itself does not impair driving as far as I know. The point of TSM is to drink less so if you take naltrexone and you drink less you are succeeding so don't over-think it or think you need to drink a lot of alcohol for it to work better. Naltrexone and 1 drink is just as effective an extinction session as naltrexone and 25 drinks (without the vomiting). Welcome, read the book and read lots of posts. Almost every question you can imagine has been asked before and you can use the Search button on the top right of the screen to find answers to most questions.

I think naltrexone is fully metabolized within 24 hours for most people, but like St. V says, no real need I've found to avoid anything in particular while on the nal (although if you're taking it in the evening before drinking then you could always work out earlier in the day to avoid the problem). The only time when you want to be very careful is if you are taking any opiates (for a medical procedure, for example) as the nal will block the opiate's effects for as long as it is in your system.

The essential point of the cited sentence is that when you start TSM you may see an immediate decrease in your drinking. It is only a hint of what TSM can do. The "artifactual" nature of this phenomenon means that real extinction has not yet taken place. That will take much more time to "change the wiring in your brain", as they say. Don't be afraid of drinking too little. Enjoy the surprise response. Good luck.

Hi Raze,

So how do you feel after your first week of drinking with Nal?

I hope all is good with you.

Andy.
