Hi - I've been on SM 3 weeks now. A few times I've got to a certain point, usually the last glass of a bottle of wine or the one after - where I feel very sick all of the sudden, similar to eating a dodgy prawn, and then vomit. Even at my most drunk I have rarely thrown up so this is new for me, especially as I don't even feel that drunk. Anyone report similar experiences? Also I've not found the craving to be reduced at all!

sorry Mickey that you're having such a hard time. I don't know what would make you vomit after drinking less than you usually have been. But each of us reacts to naltrexone differently - this could be a temporary side effect. The fact that you are not experiencing any lessening of craving is meaningless. You are not having a "honeymoon" like some, but the fact that you ARE seeing a difference in what happens to you when you drink is GOOD!!! It certainly means something is happening!

You say that you don't "feel" drunk - this is the result of the endorphins being blocked by the naltrexone and is the whole point - so that's another good thing - it is working just be patient - the side effects should lessen as your body gets used to the naltrexone. There are very few who continue to experience the SE for very long.

I'm sure many who have lots of experience will jump in.

Check in with Crown8, I believe he has the nausea that you describe.

I realize its a bit "Clockwork Orange", but in the end, wouldn't you rather have negative reinforcement? I get pretty hungover after 400 ml or so of booze these days.

There was a time Pre TSM, that would be nothing and I wouldn't even black out. Now I'm toast the next day and I black out.....this may sound odd,...but I was ecstatic being a lightweight this past weekend (after I recovered). It was easy going AF the next day and every time that happens, I see how pathetic my alcoholism is,...pre tsm, I would've brushed it off...."Damn, I need to stop drinking earlier next time..". I probably said that 9,303,435,979,594,000,459,548,294,298,111,561,940 times. And thats a lot of times

So hang in there and don't give up. TSM will work for you too and we can all come out from the grips of this monster, stronger, happier, and with a better sense of self.

My best to you my friend, Jim

I experienced the very same thing a few times. I would be drinking away and suddenly at the end of glass 3 or 4 I would suddenly feel as though I was going to be sick and wouldnt be able to evne look at the rest of the drink leet alone drinking it. I didnt mind it a bit, it reasured me that nal was working. It passes after a few weeks.

HI Celebrate,

I'm sorry you became ill, but as Nick will probably say, that's a good sign meaning that TSM will probably work for you, but remember, we all have the honeymoon (immediate less drinking) and then usually drinking ramps back up. I'm in a strange sort of mid extinction burst whereby I got slammed on Saturday after work and I'm in month 8. But don't be dismayed. I feel better than ever AND my units have been consistently down and far less than pre TSM. I'm hoping cured within the next few months. I feel the glimmers...My Best, Jim

It maybe a good sign. The same thing was happening to me. I always threw up when I binge drank, but on naltrexone, it got worse. I'd feel nausious for days after drinking, but I began to find that if I drank a little slower, it wouldn't have such a bad effect. That's what I've been doing lately. Anyway, I'm only on week 3 and I've already gotten to where I can drink 6 and put it down! I did it yesterday! Stick with it.
