If I take Naltrexone every morning and drink (typically in the evening) as I normally would, would this be as effective as simply taking it only prior to drinking? In other words, is the Sinclair Method weakened or invalidated if I take pills even on days I don't drink?

I ask this because I have deliberately not taken pills prior to drinking on some occassions in the past. I want to avoid this tempation altogether and establish a morning routine. Thanks for your advice.

First, it is best that you target your drinknig periods.

Second, I am curious why you intentionally did not take the Nal. What was your thinking? I can get equally drunk on Nal as before. What is gone is the lust to be drunk. Did you feel that was missing? You are the first that I know to intentionally not take Nal and I am interesting in your thinking?

Thanks

Average AF days 6/wk
Average Drinking < 4 drinks/wk

I now count days on Nal, rather than drinking days.

I know this is a typical reason antabuse doesn't work long term for the vast majority as we 'forget' to take them, or we say, 'Oh well just this once won't hurt', blah blah.

I guess this is the addicted voice in you, maybe afraid you won't feel the high, or worried you won't get drunk? I have felt like this I think last Sunday- I did take the nal, but washed it down with the first beer. I think I have to remind myself why I am doing this, because it is the highs and the drunkeness that have become very scary.

Maybe a bit less thinking is the order of the day- it is really quite simple- feel like a drink? Take a nal, and wait as near to an hour as you can.

The hour is up and you don't feel like it anymore? Well drink one or two or leave it- it doesn't matter.

As long as we stick to that we will be fine- it might have it's moments where we fell like bending the rules, but we have to know we can't, this is the easiest method we will ever have, but we do have to play by the one rule.
I think it is a gift from God, and I am not gonna mess around with my gift!

Very deplomatically put. I think most of would be thinking to ourselves "What he hell are you thinking?"

DITTO!!! The one hope I have is Natrexone+Alcohol=Cure. Why in the world would you choose not to take the Naltrexone? If you have the drug on hand, then by golly, just take it an hour b/4 you plan to drink. Period. End of story. . . It's really such an easy thing to do - unless you have a death wish?

Hmmm. Sinclair mentioned a degree of noncompliance and so did the drive-by shrink I saw. I honestly have no idea why someone would deliberately fail to take the naltrexone because drinking with/without it feels pretty much the same to me except for the first couple drinks.
