Dave, Good -- having close relatives with "the gene" is a good sign TSM will work for you. Also, if they were able to manufacture a non-alcoholic beer that tasted 100% exactly like your favorite beer, I highly doubt you would drink 18 of them! So, the ultimate driver is not really the taste it's the alcohol juicing up your brain. If this "juicing up" is highly related to endorphin release (as it is for me), you will not be able to drink 18 beers after taking Naltrexone. That is a "sh*t ton" of beer, as they say in the South. Also, I understand you "love to be drunk," but you're just going to have to make a choice here. Like I've said in a previous post, I would love to hang out at strip clubs all day. Strippers are awesome people and being with them is way better than drinking. However, I choose not to do this very pleasureable activity because, ultimately, it is bad for me (since I'm married). Alcoholism is even worse than strip clubs because it is so very bad for you when drinking at high levels. Quick story: There was this 50 year old man in ICU dying of liver failure -- big, yellow, bloated, diarrhea-leaking shell of a man. His family is there crying. I talked to his wife, and she said he has known for a long time he needed to quit drinking but had said, "I'd rather die young and drunk then ever quit drinking." But, whether or not the path you're on leads to major health problems or not, you obviously know that quitting your drinking habits will ultimately make your life (and, of course, your wife and family's) life much better. It can be a sad parting -- like losing an old friend -- when you give up drunkenness. You'll get over it.
