Interesting.... I've not been taking the pills for the past couple of days and my waking up is easier - just the alcohol to process, not the alcohol and codeine. I think it became a vicious cycle - take pills in morning, drink in afternoon/evening, process both through my liver in the early morning hours, wake up feeling like shite, take another couple of pills to reduce the shite feeling... and so on.

My mother is addicted to codeine... takes to the limit of the prescribed amount... but she has been taking prescription strength for years and recently had bowel surgery due to the complications brought on by years of combined constipation/laxative use. I don't want to be like her.

It's been nearly 4wks since I asked my question and I am grateful for the replies, particularly about codeine. I stopped the codeine about 10 days before starting Nal and, frankly, ditching the pills has done more for my health than I realised it would.

Me too I had codeine and tramadol in my system which I need for pain relief. Felt ill! Now, I am trying to find strong pain relief without opiates in it.

Alcohol was numbing me too, and that has cut down so can't use that for pain relief.
