Well, I started this at the end of May. I know everyone encourages counting of drinks but for some reason I have been really resistant to this. But my drinking is way down. I started off the bat with the 50 mg of the naltrexone but that was too much and I am now doing 25 mg. It is almost acting like antabuse. I have been getting terrible hangovers from a small amount of drinking - for example one glass of wine. I am nervous to drink more than that for fear of the headache. Days I get the headache I can't drink that evening because the thought of it is just terrible. I still like the idea of having a drink and I wouldn't say I have lost my desire to drink. But either way it is an improvement. Anyone else feel this crappy after drinking? It is way worse with red wine than white wine. I have actually poured red wine down the sink. Horrors!! Maybe I could break the tablet even more so I use less. I am getting my RX from my doctor and my co-pay is chump change compared to how much I am saving on not buying alcohol. I just worry about my liver - like did I ever worry before? Maybe that in of itself is a good sign!! Thanks for all your help!

That is interesting. Several of my friends here suffer Nalovers and to my knowledge they all drink red. I have never been bothered but I'm a beer guy. Ladies...experimentally try white? Oh, wait..Maggie drinks Guinnes. Never mind. :)
Several members using 1/4 tab successfully. YMMV.
Steve.

I drink red wine and have only had one nal over, if that was what it was. It could have just been the worst hangover of my entire life to the extent that I was afraid I was going to die. On that occasion I did drink quite a bit on a pretty empty stomach.

It sounds like a nalover and I have never been able to tie it to one type of alcohol.

Java you just described my pre-TSM hangovers.

I have had Nal-Overs - and as Steve said, I drink Guinness - but the thing is that they seem to be totally off the wall as to when I get them - I have had one on as little as TWO drinks - and also on as many as 5, and there never seems to be any rhyme or reason for them - but yes they are worse than any hangover - I never used to suffer from hangovers !

Hugs, Maggie x

I have never had a nal over and I drink anything that is slower than I am. Just kidding really, but seriously I drink red and white wine, vodka, gin, cognac etc etc. No beer though. But I have not had any other Nal SEs either so maybe the two are related? The people who get the nausea and other SEs from nal also get the nal overs? I wonder if changing brands would make a difference. Newlife

UK Blonde,

If my hangovers were like that, I probably would have stopped drinking a long time ago (or at least cut down on my drinking). But the only time I ever got a hangover was when I drank a half of gallon of whiskey...I still hate the smell.

I also remember the very first time I drank a lot...everyone else was so drunk (one of my friends was even sick), but I finished the bottle and felt nothing. If it wasn't for the fact that everyone else was drunk, I would have sworn that I was drinking Kool-Aid instead of slow gin. Is it possible to be born with a tolerance?

Jaba

I couldn' stop, that was the problem  sure I would stop for a few days, a week even, but then I'd do it all over again. Hundreds of times.
