My husband and I both took 50 mg. last night one hour and 20 min. before we drank. I got high, couldn't eat and didn't sleep well. He ate and went to sleep, then couldn't sleep the rest of the night and vomitted this morning. So we both feel kinda crappy this morning.

So my first question is: What is the lowest dose we can take to still get the full effects of this med? Is it 25 mg.? 12.5?

Second question is: If we plan to drink at 6pm, how far in advance can we take the nal? I mean if the half life is 6 hours, then we could take it around 3:30 and still get the full effects?

I hope these questions are answered in the book. We don't have a Dr. working with us to ask these questions. Thanks!

Due to side effects, it's suggested that the starting dose be 25mg and as low as 12.5mg if side effects persist. As for what is the lowest effective dose, that depends on your physiology.


Supposedly, taking it in the morning should be effective all day. It is for me, but I have read reports from others here who seem to metabolize it more quickly. The "official" Eskapa word is that a single 50mg dose should still be effective at night even if you take it in the morning.

Half-life means the time until half the drug is going from the body. Therefore if the first half-life is 13 hours, half is left after 13 hours. It takes another 13 hours for the remaining amount to get to half so the end of 24 hours, you would be rid of 75%, etc.

It's reasonable to assume that the effects are minimal after 24 hours, but it is said that the effects may last for several days to some extent.

Well we both tried the half dose twice so far and I think it reduced the cravings about half as well. John still has sleep issues taking it and my face is breaking out like freaking crazy!

We are going to try the full dose again today and try it early as we did the half dose yesterday early and John slept better.
