So, I am driving to see some friends in Canada with my 6yo son. I really, really don't want to be without Nal but don't want there to be some problem at the border since I bought it from River Pharmacy and don't have a prescription.

Any advice? Its not a controlled substance, so will they care? Should I declare it or just not say anything and hope for the best?

I might be overthinking it since I do have experience taking other, uh, substances over the border. But its 15 years since all that and I'll have my kid with me. I did have a problem at the border many, many years ago and it always pops up on the computer so I think I am somewhat more likely than average to get searched.

This is a great question! I have a *21* day honeymoon in Fiji coming up in September! I'll have to take it somehow... How hard could this be? I have other valid prescriptions; would filling a bottle with these loose really generate enough inquiry for them to figure out it wasn't the same pill? Or could the foil packets be hidden inside some object in checked luggage?

So, I looked around online and I'm not sure you actually need a prescription if its in the original foil packets and is not some kind of schuldule whatever controlled substance. From this website http://www.hc-sc.gc.ca/dhp-mps/compli-c ... ng.php#a52

not sure about other countries! I think I'm just going to declare it.

5.2.3 Visitors to Canada

Visitors to Canada may bring into Canada, on their person:

A single course of treatment or a 90-day supply based on the directions for use, whichever is less, of a health product.
The health product must be for the individual’s own personal use, for the use of a person for whom they are responsible and with whom they are travelling, or for use on an animal for which they are responsible and with whom they are travelling.

The health product must be shipped/carried in one of the following:

Hospital or pharmacy dispensed packaging;
Original retail packaging; or
have the original label affixed to it which clearly indicates what the health product is and what it contains.
Should a Visitor’s stay in Canada exceeds the supply of medication imported at the time of their arrival to Canada, the Visitor may import an additional single unit, single course of treatment or a 90-day supply based on the directions for use, whichever is less, of a health product. When a health product is mailed to a Visitor, the health product should be accompanied by some form of documentation indicating that the health product is destined to a Visitor and/or the Visitor should be prepared to provide documentation/written evidence (stamped passport, student/work visa, letter from an employer/university etc) that they are a Visitor to Canada when requested.

Visitors are advised that the exporting country may also have additional restrictions on what may be exported to Canada. Visitors are advised to check with their local authorities before leaving and to plan accordingly.

Visitors are responsible for ensuring that any remaining health products they imported into Canada but have not consumed during their stay are either safely disposed of or exported from Canada by them when they leave the country.

I wanted to post my 2 cents here ... I travel for work, for example I am currently in Costa Rica, and I have never had an issue. I just treat consider the Nal, the same as I do any other medication. I have never been asked about it, so I don't think that you have anything to worry about.

So if they ask you if you have any medications do you say yes?

Hi,

ive never ever been asked what meds Im carrying. My hub is on a ton of meds including steroids, and other heavy duty stuff and I pile them all into one bag along with vitimins, antihistimines, tabs for stomach upsets, you name it and Ive never been asked a single question by them. Can you imagine how slowly the que would move if they had to check every single tablet and who it belonged to.

I think Mario is right, but an idea which might set your mind at ease would be to put some vitamins, painkillers and loose Nal (the pills alone without the wrapper), mixed up together in a vitamin bottle, that way if you ever did get questioned, which I doubt, you could say that you brought along enough vits, painkillers and antihistamines for the trip.
