Hello All,

I know there must be a FAQ somewhere on the board but I just can't seem to find it. Where can I find what all the acronyms (such as AF) mean? Also, a brief explanation of what constitutes units of alcohol.

Thanks,
Chance

Have you read the book or just poking through the web site? You need to start reading excerpts from the book, start with all the introductions, FAQs and general discussions. AF is alcohol free days. A unit is like 1 beer, 4 oz glass of wine...

illuminae, thank you for helping a newbie out. I've ordered the book through Amazon but I'll start reading the excerpts now.

Chance.

Chance, there is a thread called TSM Glossary that has a bunch of terms defined along with a link to units of alcohol for various countries. Welcome.

From one newbie to another: welcome. Check out this site to read Sinclair study (very accessible).

If there is a FAQ here, I haven't seen it. AF day = Alcohol-Free day. A unit of alcohol is 17 ml of pure ethanol. Reasonable approximations are that an average 350 ml beer (4.5 to 5.5% ABV) is a single unit, an average bottle of wine (13-14% ABV) is 6 units, a typical whisky shot is one unit and a 750 ml of your typical hard liquor is 17.5 units. All units above are US units and all approximate. Units in other countries differ significantly. E.g., UK unit is 1.7 time smaller.

"FAQ" is at the top of the message boards.
Right under the .com

That's FAQ for phpBB, not TSM.

Try going to this thread. It's the Glossary of TSM Terms thread.
