I recently broke a rib in my chest. Doctor perscribed Lortab and it doesn't seem to be helping. I have been doing TSM for 9 months and wondering if Nal could be blocking pain meds. Anyone know anything about this.

Naltrexone makes opiate and opioid based pain medications completely ineffective. Lortab is an opioid based narcotic pain medication with the active ingredient Hydrocodone.

You could call your doctor and ask for a non-narcotic pain medication. You could stop taking the naltrexone and it would clear your system within 2-5 days. But if you did this then due to opioid receptor upregulation your Lortab would be much more effective than normal after the naltrexone has cleared your system. This also increases the risk of narcotic overdose, although it is unlikely with Lortab even with receptor upregulation. If you're not concerned about insurance issues then just ask your doctor how best to proceed.

Well thats a relief....I was beginning to doubt if the Nal was working for me still. I have some changes but seem to be stuck at a plateau with wine. At least I know it is working in my system if it is blocking the Lortab.

Next question are non narcotic pain meds like advil, etc or are their precription non narcotic pain meds...At least I know I can't get hooked on Lortab while taking Nal. I wonder if they use this method to treat patients that are addicted to opioids....

Actually a chemical variant of Naltrexone (Naloxone) is injected into people who are brought to emergency rooms with heroin overdoses and it immediately binds to the opioid receptors, but without the effects of the intense life-threatening high. Both block these receptors, but are used differently because although they are related and they partially bind to the opioid receptors, one is used post-drug use and the other as a protective mechanism from true opioids.

Lol...It's the reason these drugs were invented!

As for other pain meds...I'd say ask your doctor.

and what about Marijuana? I realized its illegal and debilitating mentally, but it seems to be effective for pain. I've used it to help temper my alcohol use, similar I think to the way people are using Baclofen, and it definitely seems to have a pain killing effect. Naltrexone does not interfere with it at all. Best, Jim
