Joe I read through your post about gabapentol. I was wondering do you have troubke drinking on it? I used to always act twice as drunk and black out more with even a little benzos in my system. Even when I take 5htp and drink I notice I get drunker faster. Do you plan on taking Gabapentin forever? What are the long term risks?

Thanks for your service Joe

You're quite welcome, TL!

Benzos are a different story. People often report drinking more on benzos and it causes them to black out too. Gabapentin doesn't actually work on the GABA receptors like benzos do. Originally, they thought it did but it works via a "calcium channel" mechanism instead.

I quit taking Gabapentin part way through TSM as I felt I didn't need it anymore.

My doc prescribed 300mg pills, up to 3 as needed. I started out with 2 but only used 1 most of the time.

So you took it every day once a day? Did you ever suffer panic attacks and how did it help your anxiety levels?

No, I didn't run into any panic attacks or anxiety. I took it just before bedtime.

I don't know if the Gabapentin was keeping me from having anxiety or I just wasn't going to run into that in the first place.

Just thought I would pop in with my 2 cents worth - it took 11 months to flip the switch for me - and I did not really notice a decrease in my intake for the 4 months prior to suddenly overnight being 'cured'. So, hang in there - I always used to say that you have to have faith and patience. I cannot drink now - just have NO desire whatsoever and I never thought that would happen to me.

Hugs, Maggie

None since Jan '16 I feel that I can safely say that I am cured!

Thank you Maggie ! That gives me some hope! I imagine not ever craving a drink again. I hooe it happens for me too. Last week I only had 9 drinks and this week 6! But mainly due to a busy schedule and horrible post drinking anxiety. Congratulations on your triumph it is a great acheivment.
