Yes that is what adderall is used for but it is a street drug meth (speed), or methamphetamine, and I believe he was using it in very high doses and not taking it orally....a dangerous drug if abused and highly addictive...I don't understand why he responded differently, for coming off adderall would make me tired for weeks at the amount he was using daily; however, I have never taking it the way that he did and it would scare me to do so. I am unsure about how long it would be in your system. I told him he was lucky that he did not have a heart attack for he was in his late 40s.

I did cocaine pretty regularly for about 3 years. When you live with people who supply the University and young professionals with their weekly supply of coke then it's available everyday for free. Not a good situation at all. It's probably that situation that advanced my alcoholism to a great degree because when doing coke drinking is the only thing that takes the insanity out of it. And God knows you can drink A LOT when doing coke.

Funny thing is when I finally gave up coke I remember thinking to myself I don't need this **** anymore. All I need to feel good is a nice drink and good food. That's when the drinking really started to take hold. I was probably about 23 years old. The cocaine use took on a whole other thing. I would get extremely paranoid and think every one was a cop watching me and my house and so on. It kept getting bigger and bigger and included more and more deals, dangerous people, guns and prison.

I got out.

But anyway...

Wow what a blast from the past. I learned a lot about addiction doing cocaine and in fact see parallels to alcohol use. If I didn't do cocaine then I was fine but that first line would set up a chase that would last till the morning and sometimes on into two and even three days no sleep. Alcohol was the same. If I didn't drink I was fine but one beer set off the chase. The difference being that too much alcohol leads to passing out sleep.

Suffice to say I'd much rather be an alcoholic then a coke addict. That **** will kill you or you may end up in jail.

Now on to the important part. I don't think you should be practicing TSM and doing cocaine. Not at least without some professional supervision. Here's why. Coke will KILL you if you take too much of it. While on Naltrexone if you drink too much then you will still probably pass out before you can drink too much to poison yourself. However if you take Naltrexone and use cocaine you may think that you just need more and more and without feeling it the same way may easily end up with a dangerous overdose.

Ocean,

You do make an excellent point, and I am glad you got out of that scene alive!

Absolutely right, which is one of the cautions in using naltrexone for opiate abuse. Just like you still get drunk while taking naltrexone, you're still getting all of the stimulant effects when you use cocaine, just not the "reward" stimulus.

Thank you for taking the time to point that important information out!
