I have run into an issue that I suspect has come up with others. My overall health is great; normal liver enzymes in spite of the drinking, no heart or other such problems. Normally I would qualify for a pretty decent term life policy. I have been turned down by several companies because of the fact I'm taking NAL. I have written detailed letters explaining the Sinclair Method with no result. It seems like these companies would rather have a 12 step failure rather than a TSM success. Anyone have any advice regarding this? Thanks.

I wouldnt tell them. Typically, they test for beta blockers, thiazide diuretics, cocaine, and blood tests for long term elevated blood sugar.

They would have the same skewed notion of how it works as the general public, plus the fact you're taking it suggests that you have a problem with alcohol.

Yeah, I think I'd fib too. Educating an individual is hard; educating a corporation is probably impossible.

I just had to get extended Medical/Dental for my trip and did not mention I am taking Nal. No one gets TSM or any of this so better they not know how I am saving my life against what traditional methods tell us we should do?

The problem is when you apply for life insurance you must sign an authorization for underwriting to access your medical records. Since I obtained my NAL from my doctor, the records are there and there's not much I can do.
Thanks,

I don't suppose the doctor would agree to lie that you're taking it for some other reason?

If not, I think you're screwed. :(

Hey Melissa,
Yeah, I'm screwed. I wouldn't ask my doc to do that, and the only other use for NAL that I'm aware of is to kick opiate addictions, which are even less popular with insurance companies.

Nal has also been studied with mixed results to curb other obsessive behaviors like gambling, and stealing. Low does Nal is actively being studied as an aid to Fibromyalgia, Cancer and even HIV. It was not proven however, as had been suggested, to help with tobacco addiction. Not sure insurance companies would see any of those as a 'good' risk though. :(

I'm convinced it took my caffeine addiction away, which is nice.
