Okay,
As the old adage said, now that I got yor attention...

Here is the question that is the elephant in the middle of the room. What are the effects of Naltrexone on having sex.

Eskapa talks about taking time off from Nal for those activities that may release endorphins and I cannot think of an activity more than sex that might qualify. So what are the recommends here?

Is it Okay to have sex while under Nal? Will it make me impotent?
What are the recommends. What have been your experiences?

The way I have understood it, is that in the same way Nal works for drinking it can also lessen the pleasure for other endorphin releasing related activities, so I am trying to do anything in that category before I take the Nal, and anything that isn't too good for me after I take it! Within a week or two I expect to be having some days when I am not taking it at all, so then I will go for those other activities, so if I were you I would become a morning sex person, if you have to have sex everyday, LOL.

To be quite honest after the Nal, I don't feel all that much like doing anything, I am quite happy to just sit there, use the PC, whatever, but the thought of doing anything energetic doesn't really appeal. It is very early days for me though, so maybe that will wear off.

It might help to re-read what Eskapa says about selective extinction (pp. 120-122). Sinclair also discusses it in the podcast. Reinforcing positive opioidergic behaviors is an important part of the Sinclair Method. After several weekd of naltrexone use, our brains have (temporarily) more active opioid receptors. So when we are ready for a couple days' abstinence, we take off one day to wash the drug from our system, then on the second day we focus on endorphine-producing behaviors we want to reinforce; they will be especially pleasurable.

What Marbella says about A.M. sex makes sense. Same goes for exercise. But, not to worry; Any behavior we inadvertantly partially extinguish by engaging on naltrexone will easily be relearned by engaging in it OFF naltrexone. This is why it is critical to follow what Eskapa calls the Golden Rule: Always take naltrexone before drinking. Never drink without it. We don't want to re-learn our drinking addiction.

This is what I have to say about that:

Just DO IT!!!! LOL

I do not believe the urge for sex will ever be extinguished...but the pleasure factor?? I just don't think it's going to work that way. This is not an anti-depressant, afterall. Although, I was wondering the same thing awhile back as far as blocking the pleasure sensors for both sex and exercise...unless these two things are abused, then taking Nal is not going to affect the pleasure we derive from them, is my understanding. And yes, on the days (later on at some point) when the Na is not in our systems, then perhaps we will be super-warriors on both fronts!! LOL - now wouldn't that be fun & amazing!! Let's promise to share stories, OK???!!! :-)

One thing I can say, is I am trying to extinguish my sad thoughts about a man I am grieving over the loss of (relationship)...concentrating on getting the addiction to thoughts of him out of my system as well as this beast alcohol. This is the end of week 1, and I can honestly say I have felt and noticed differences. I did drink a tad less, but was very busy and that may have been part of it. But I did not have a woozy hangover on any day- I got less sleep, had weird dreams, etc, but oddly, felt like it was a GREAT week!! Just little things - I don't know - kind-of what you all have been saying.

I don't perceive it as any kind of WOW extraordinary experience, but just something different. Now...if only I were having sex to be able to comment on this topic!! LOL Keep your fingers crossed for me!! :-)

Thanks you guys. You are both fun and I always enjoy your answers.
Actually I wasn't even that serious.

But I did have a little concern.

I hate to admit this, but alcohol and sex have almost ALWAYS been linked together for me. Whether it was having a few stiff drinks to "get in the mood" or the loss of inhibitions/increase in desire after a fun night of partying - those are the times when I've been most likely to have sex. The morning option could work sometimes, but it's rarely practical. Anybody have a similar situation? :?:

Without giving out details, I take off a few days from Nal (and drinking of course) each week for other activities, love making being among them.

I have had sex while I had drank and was on Nal and did not notice any difference.

The experience in Finland where tens of thousands have used naltrexone (based on the number of prescriptions per capita - according to Sinclair and numbers in clinical trials using naltrexone in the US and other countries) is that those who have lost control over their drinking are focused on getting that control back. Initially most are drinking daily and taking naltrexone daily, an hour before drinking. Sex is generally not an issue at this stage. The overwhelming issue to to regain control over drinking so that one can drink within safe limits or abstain with ease, without craving, without white-knuckling it... Later on, when the craving is reduced there are days off drinking AND OFF NALTREXONE. On these days endorphine mediated (opiodergic) behaviors are especially good - so sex and chocolate should be better. Impotence and sexual dysfunction has not been reported in the clinical trials - so in practice not to worry! (Please see the section in The Cure for Alcoholism on 'Selective Extinction' -- pages 120 - 122.

That is exactly what I have done. I took a drinking sabbatical this weekend and last night I saw the enhanced receptors dividend. It was dynamite! Thanks.
