I started and stopped TSM several times since joining this forum in 2010. A messy divorce, business failure and other events took me to a place where I just didn't care. When I did take NAL, I was just not committed. I never read the book, kept track of progress or anything. I guess I thought the NAL was a magic bullet and if I took it before imbibing I would be cured in several months. My question is, can I start again in a serious way and hopefully get results? There were times that I felt it worked but I just didn't care. Now I do. Almost killed myself in a motorcycle wreck, I have a woman in my life that I deeply love, a son in an elite combat unit of the US Marines, two beautiful daughters and lovely granddaughter. I'm an incredibly healthy 61, weight train regularly and in spite of my alcohol abuse look to be in my late 40's. I want to get to a place where I can have a glass of wine with my lady once in a while and leave it at that. Do my past failures mean that success is not possible? Also, I have heard of other meds mentioned. Is NAL still the best option? Thanks very much. - Retread

Welcome retread. I'm no doctor but I'm thinking its never too late to try and improve your life. I say give it a go. Be accountable and see what happens. You got too much in your life to protect and enjoy, I believe TSM should be your first step. You are exactly where you need to be. You can do it. Trust the science and odds are you are closer then you could possibly imagine to a new life. Peace

TSM will work fine, if you follow the protocol correctly, although it is possible to still drink too much while taking it.

The general end result for most on here who have successfully used it, is little desire to drink, and when drinking does occur, it does not bring the expected pleasure.

Hence, heavy drinking ceases. Many, develop an indifference to alcohol, so They don't care whether they drink or not, which is where I am also.

If that's not a good result, I don't know what is. I know I drank excessively while taking naltrexone after a while. Refocusingon limiting intake, and educating more about alcohol, lead to drinking next to nothing.

Hang around here and look at what people journal who have succeeded, and you'll be very motivated to continue along.

Retread, I'm on the same boat and feel that no matter how often you try, it is better than doing nothing. Some of the most successful (what ever your definition of success is) people in the world say that they have got there by failing. Just my two cents worth, Keek
