This sounds like a good idea, but I had a beer this weekend (followed the Golden Rule, of course), and it seems that my tolerance for it has plummeted. It was good microbrew (which is why I wanted one) and I enjoyed it while I drank it, but I felt horrible (sleepy and headachy) for hours afterwards. Maybe something else was going on, but I'm hesitant to repeat that experience.
I probably should have just continued social drinking while it was still tolerable. I haven't had any cravings (I could have passed on the beer, but it was a relatively rare opportunity), so I'm not too worried about it, but it's early yet.
