Hi,
I found the forum through the mywayout forum where I have been reading everything I can find on this method bar purchasing the book which I'm about to order. I think it would be easier if I told you abit about myself and my problems first if you can bear with me a second ;)

I'm 33 and have been drinking since about the age of 16, the usual binge drinking at the weekend but a few seasons here and there during the week. Up until a few years ago I seen this as normal! I'm Irish after all and everyone I know does it. (I know now that they don't) The thing is I have also been into drugs progressively from cannabis to ecstasy and for about the last 7 years cocaine which I absolutely hate :x When I take Cocaine I will go on an almighty bender for 4-5 days drinking non stop just not wanting to face the next day sober as I go into the depts of depression. This has gotten worse over the last year or two and is staring to worry me as I'm drinking way to much not to mention the coke which landed me in A&E a few years back.

What I'm trying to say is alcohol is my absolute gateway drug. Believe it or not I don't think I have ever taken ecstasy sober and have only ever tried cocaine once in 7 years while sober which did absolutly nothing for me! My drinking is at best described as sporadic! I can go a week no problem without a beer, or have 1 or 2 most days or none at all for 2-3 days a week. Its when I get drunk my inhibitions drop there guard and away I go, cocaine and drinking for days.

I'm really starting to worry about my health and think this method might be ideal for me if it could cut my drinking down to sensible levels and then out completely. Does anyone know how effective TSM is for people who are not daily drinkers? Thanks for listening to me rambling on ;)

Hi Flyer

Just want to say welcome.

I am a daily drinker so maybe not the best qualified to answer, but we do have a few people on board who are bingers, including Potato who has been following the method the longest of the members here.

If you go to the members list and click on Potato, you will be able to read through her posts. If you have time I would simply read through every thread, as there may be information therein not revealed by the title of the thread- we seem to be a good bunch for hijacking threads!

From my personal point of view, I do not think it matters too much if you are a binge drinker- just when you feel you are going to drink take the Nal. If the binge lasts several days, on the morning of each new day have another tablet.

Although I am a daily drinker, this was punctuated by more heaver binging, periods where I would go maybe 3 or 4 days drinking day and night as opposed to just during the evening. Since I have been on the Nal, I have only done that twice, and on each occasion I stopped drinking halfway through the second day- so actually the binge never became full blown.

There is also a bit more about binging here:

Hi marbella,
Thanks for the replie. I'm trying to read everything as you have said and can't wait to get my hands on the book! I think I could handle taking a Naltrexone everytime I fancy a drink as I'm not really one who gets totally overcome by cravings they just seem to build up but I do see them coming which helps.

Once you get going it is pretty easy- you start thinking about drinking, and decide whether you are likely to have one- if the answer is Yes, take the Nal, then wait an hour, or as near to an hour as possible.
If you are going to drink and have to do it there and then, just take the Nal with the first drink.

And basically that is it- after a while following this routine, the desire to get drunk isn't really there as it was before- you find yourself still nursing the same drink an hour later, and even throwing it away. The drinks become more spaced apart, and suddenly reading a good book or watching a movie seems like a better option

Flyer,

Welcome.

Yes, The Sinclair Method is effective for people who are not daily drinkers. Have a look in the forums here for the user "potato" She is a Sinclair Method user who drank sporadically. Potato is basically a "graduate" of The Sinclair Method and states her life is drastically changed from what it was before The Sinclair Method.

If possible, get a copy of Dr. Eskapa's book, The Cure for Alcoholism. This is basically our marching orders. If you can't get the book, search the forum for chapters from Dr. Eskapa's book. He has graciously posted many of them here on this site.

As soon as possible, get a prescription for Naltrexone. If you don't understand The Sinclair Method yet, then just tell your Dr. that you are in an alcohol treatment program and you want a prescription of Naltrexone to help with anti-craving.

Once you have Naltrexone, starting is very simple. The beauty of this is that there is only one thing we need to do:

*** Take Naltrexone at least one hour prior to drinking Alcohol.

More precisely, the Golden Rule for The Sinclair Method is:

Naltrexone + Alchohol = Cure.

Morning Flyer, I too am NOT a binge drinker, I am a definite 24/7

I do think you may have some positive results with the Naltrexone, so it may be a good idea for you to give it a go.

I am NOT trying to highjack but just want to share my thoughts about marbella's sentence here: I too just went on a Two Day Bender and I was really frightened! Lo and Behold, it came and went, easily and with out too much concentration on my part. I am back to a moderate level of AL and in the past this would have lasted for a week or two, with a day in bed faking a "cold" and continuing to drink thru that day with hot toddies.

SO welcome to the fold, and best to you for your quest.
