Does anyone know if I have to stop taking Naltrexone if I am taking oral sedation for dental surgery. And if so how long before the sedation? Thank you!

I'm not sure what you mean by "oral sedation." If you will be sedated, you'll want to avoid taking naltrexone for at least 24 hours beforehand. If you will just receive local anesthesia (lidocaine), then it shouldn't be a problem.

Thank you. Where were you able to find this information? Have you tried this before. I am nervous that I will take the medication and it will not work during the dental procedure. It is a relaxant I will be given for the procedure.

You can Google it. I haven't tried it before (I'm new). If it's a relaxant, you probably will need to not take naltrexone for at least 24 hours before. Try to find out exactly what it is. If you are afraid you will drink on the day before without nal, maybe you could work with your dentist to give you something that the nal won't interfere with.

Any "relaxant" is 99% of the time going to be a Benzo drug (e.g. Valium,Versed, or Ativan). For dental work, I'd bet that Versed would be the first choice, followed by Ativan as second choice. Those are only reversed by Romazicon. Narcan (IV Naltrexone) has absolutely zero effect on them. Opioids like Morphine would not generally be given during dental work, since lidocaine effectively takes the procedural pain away.

I've had lots of brutal dental work done over the years, and never use anything. Technology has made the whole experience more comfortable to begin with. But, if he's afraid of dental work, sedatives might be good.
