Saw this and thought if one were struggling with AUD and if one needed to use such a med anyway and one's blood pressure was just as well controlled by Isradipine, why the hell not?

I posted in the New? Introduce Yourself Forum and mentioned that I'd recently started a calcium channel blocker (amlodipine) for high blood pressure (150/90) and had noticed that it had a positive impact on my daily drinking. JoeSixPack pointed out studies on another calcium channel blocker, isradipine, which has been shown to have an effect on cocaine and alcohol addiction. I'm pretty excited that there may be multiple ways to come at addictive behavior in the brain, especially since these are generic meds that typically have few and modest side effects.

I should say that my experience so far with amlodipine is that the effect is not "hit you upside the head" impressive, but I think as someone who drinks too much, but probably is not physically addicted yet and desperately wants to get control of the compulsion to drink, I can use this opportunity.

It also makes me extremely hopeful that adding Naltrexone will get me to a place where I hardly care about alcohol at all anymore.
