Post subject:  Questions for those cured

I have been having regular AF days, now really dislike taste of it. Previously on AF days I have still taken my nalmafene (I am in UK but any experience of this on naltrexone appreciated)as I've been worried that if I stopped & then took it again I would have a return of the dreadful SEs I experienced when I started taking it. Now I feel I want to get it out of my system a bit, so last 3 days have not taken it. Today 3rd day not taking it I have had overwhelming tiredness & really found it hard to function, been so sleepy all day, has anyone else experienced this? Any ideas or tips?
secondly I'm worried if I stop taking it regularly that when I take it again (if I feel the need ) I will be back to square one with the SEs. I'd be grateful for others experiences please. I've posted this on the uk options save lives board but it's less "active" than this one.....

Recently, I had 4 drinks one night (Valentine's Day) in a 40 day period and subsequently 1 drink after 30 days. I have not had the SE return and only take NAL when drinking.

Thanks Bardo, that is somewhat reassuring, I will test out tomorrow as going to a party, Selincro Nalmafene is a bit nastier than Naltrexone I believe. Anyway I've just received an order of Naltrexone that I'm going to switch to and see if it has less SEs for me overall. My doc is still prescribing Selincro but I want to try Naltrexone as it's supposed to be less nasty! Thanks again. Boo

Have you tried naltrexone yet? If so, how was it?

Going back to naltrexone after being off it for a while I have found myself a bit snappy, and easily irritated with others. It gave me the insight to road-rage and I have to remind myself to calm down. As long as I remember eat before hand I will not have any nausea. But, remember everyone is different.

I do hope your experience with naltrexone is different from the Selincro, for I would hate for the nal to cause the same side effects as the Selincro. Some have had a very hard time with taking the nal and had to slowly increase their dose.

I hope all went will. Keep us posted,

Boo, I also hear that Naltrexone is usually less problematic than Selincro in this regard. As you'll likely be shifting to Naltrexone for the long run, it might be good to have some on hand so you can give it a try at home (after a run of AF days), under controlled circumstances just to make sure.

Typed a long post here yesterday but it disappeared oops. Anyway had half a tab (25mg) of Naltrexone on Thurs & Fri with one small beer each time, no side effects yippee. (Did this after 3 AF days JSP as suggested). I'm still experience extreme fatigue though, difficulty waking up and then fall asleep in the afternoon for 2/3 hours, this could be totally unrelated and if it continues I'll go and see my GP. Back to the drinking issue, I found it pretty hard to drink those two beers! I wanted to try out the Naltrexone, but I had no desire to drink and I've totally gone off the taste, I wonder if this will continue. Anyway I bought a big stock of Naltrexone to be on the safe side although my drug specialist doctor said he will prescribe it once I'm abstinent and I think I'm headed that way, fingers and toes crossed. Really cannot express how happy I am to be at this stage, my drinking is well within safe limits, I feel pretty good apart from the fatigue.
Thanks to all of you for the support.
