It has been a few months since I have posted or even visited the site because I have had quite a rough go of it.

Last August I started a dual regime of Baclofen and Naltrexone. I took on Baclofen because my initial experience with Naltrexone was that of no response. Mind you, I had to keep telling myself that blockage of endorphin's to the opiate receptors is NOT the same as pleasure (that's straight from the Eskapa book). I tirated up to high dosages of Baclofen while at the same time following the Golden Rule. Thus, for several months I continued to drink too much and at one point was so sick and nauseous from the Baclofen that I finally discontinued it in early December. While I may have been drinking less with the Naltrexone, I was still drinking WAY more than I wished. In December, I was just about to throw in towel on the whole ordeal and attempt total abstinence but, my stubbornness and desire for drink had me continue. I am so glad that I did because I literally woke up one day to discover a complete shift in the way I felt about alcohol. I no longer desired to get drunk and in fact had the ability to nurse a single beer over an entire hour and finish the day with 3 beers or less. The first thing I noticed before reverting to what I would call a social drinker was one evening the prospect of drinking did not appeal to me at all but, I drank anyway. It was then that I experienced actually wanting to stop at 4 or less. They say 3-4 months to cure which is why I was about to give up but, I guess I was one of the outliers because it took me 5 months to reach nirvana. Before last August I was a binge drinker with a typical pattern of either 4 quick shots of whiskey or Vodka followed by 7-20 beers until pass out or simply a pint of Vodka to pass out. So, what I am experiencing today is nothing short of amazing. They say that miracles only happen to those that seek them so I am so very glad that I stayed the course. Funny, there was a user on this site at one time that used to say, "Naltrxone + Golden Rule = Excuse to keep drinking" and 2 weeks ago I was about to start agreeing with him but, today the evidence does not support that equation. So, my advice to anyone out there is, unless you are doing dangerous thing while drinking, stay the course because it should pay off at some point. YAY!!!!!!

So good to hear. I am almost 4 months and was getting discouraged. I increased my dose to 75 mg last week and experienced a weekend of being a more social drinker. Not perfect but progress! I am optimistic now. Congratulations on your success!
