It's different this time...

I can't count how many times I have quit drinking and then thought I was "ok" to have a few after prolonged abstinence. Needless to say that I always ended up back in the same condition. Waking up in the morning with no recollection of what I had done the night before. I have woke up in jail three times in the last four years. Not to mention the four times before I was 21, all drinking related. The shame, guilt, anxiety...of course the fines, criminal record, driving suspensions, counselling, classes, AA and probation...blah! I am so done with this!

Enter Naltrexone and The Sinclair Method. I found out about TSM while disparately searching the internet for something that would help with my binge drinking. I was skeptical of TSM but decided to look into it. The simplicity, rates of success, and studies of the method are what convinced me to try it. It was difficult at first because I was once again committed to abstinence and I would have to drink in order for this to work. With a little luck I found Dr. Berkowitz in London and set up an appointment and he prescribed Nal. After a rocky start, which included a very bad night out, my problem with alcohol has quietly retreated into the abyss.

Although the term "cure" may be a bit overstated, I can say that The Sinclair Method is an effective remedy for those of us that cannot drink sensibly. This is the best kept secret in the recovery business, and it's a shame that it is, because it really works.

I also want to mention the fantastic support that this forum provides. Everyone that has posted on my weekly status blog has been encouraging, non-judgmental, and I have learned much from your experiences. Thank you so much!

Wow, Eric! Let me be the first to congratulate you, and I do so w/ a few tears in my eyes...

I'm really glad you included the "prequel" in this post because I don't always read all the intros and I didn't know how bad it had been for you w/ alcohol...which makes your story all the more dramatic and moving...that you did all this since the first of the year, WTG!

I will miss your posts from "across the pond" and DO hope you'll drop in - you're right: this Forum is the best, & sure beats driving to all those meetings that DON'T work...

This is in response to a request made by someone on this board that I hold in high regard...

A little about me:

I am 46 years old. I manage aircraft maintenance vendors for an airline. I am married (25 years) and have three children ages 21, 19, and 18. My oldest is married and has two daughters (my grand kids), my 19 year old daughter is in college and lives with me here in England. My 18 year old son is in college and lives with my oldest daughter in the US.

My family has been very supportive of me and TSM, I encourage them to read my weekly progress updates and they will be reading this thread as well.

I am available for anyone that wishes to ask me anything.

Hello all,

Just thought I would drop by and leave a note on how I am doing. Well, it has been two years since I declared myself as cured and I can honestly say that TSM has worked wonders. This weekend will mark a year since I had my last pint in Dublin...not that I have been trying to abstain but for me the nal+drinking isn't worth the bother. I really don't like to drink anymore. Don't like the feeling, don't like the insomnia, and don't like how I feel the next day even after just a couple of drinks. So...I just don't. My friends and family have come to accept my abstinence and never bother me to drink. I did have a couple of nal free drinking nights last October while in China, luckily non-eventful, but quickly went back to nal + drinking after that (kind of scared the crap out of me).

TSM works.
