On behalf of my wife, I would like to advise the forum members that Mrs. Bobandcarol has declared herself cured of her alcoholism at week 21. This has been coming for a few weeks, but this week she said that all the pieces came together. The missing piece for her was indifference to AL. She realized after 4 AF days this week that she can still get drunk if she wants to (the NAL doesn't stop that), but that somehow it doesn't sound that great anymore (most of the time). Drinking is now a planned event for her and is not dictated by craving. Yes, she feels like drinking sometimes, but she doesn't have to because she can put the effects of the AL into perspective. She came to realize that the buzz simply doesn't do what it did for her in the past, AND that she can consciously act on that knowledge. She said it's a subtle change in her brain allowing her to view alcohol as she would other choices she might make in her life. Though she doesn't bother herself with terms like "selective extinction", I know darn well that is what's happening, and we are so thankful to Dr. Sinclair, the internet, and this forum for making the impossible happen. She is so thrilled to be rid of this plague, that she is now telling people about the program without fear of backlash or relapse. A funny moment was midweek when she said to me that the kids were driving her crazy, and that she was going to have a bottle of wine this weekend. Ok, that might not sound like someone who is cured, but to me it was a glorious moment. There is no way she could possibly go the night (or day) without drinking under those circumstances before TSM.

Note: While I write most of the posts here with her approval and direction, I DO print threads of interest for her to read. So feel free to send messages to her; she will get them.

Husband

Bob and Carol

Congrads to both of you guys. I know how your wife is feeling. It's so awsesome not to be under the control of the damn bottle. You must be a great person to stand by and support your wife on this treatment. I'm happy for the both of you

Thank you all for your well-wishes. I would like to add that mrs. still has goals she would like to achieve regarding alcohol, like drinks per session, but that the obsession and addiction are extinguished. I don't expect that there will NEVER be a problem with alcohol again, since even normal drinkers often have problems when they drink, myself included. The thing is, I am confident that my kids are safe, and that my wife can be the wonderful person that she is.

Awwwww..congratulations to Carol! She is lucky to have you supporting her along the way - I'm jealous (in many ways) LOL !! So glad it worked and so cute she is waiting for the weekend to drink a bottle in celebration. Love it how you can do that on this program and thus live a "normal life"! You are doing so & I am so happy for that! Awesome - may the force be with you! :-))

Beginning poster--hope this shows up in the right place!
Bob and Carol, Congratulations! I am beyond excited by reading your story and am on pins and needles waiting for my Nal to come in the mail. I am almost afraid to be optimistic, for I have tried quitting/cutting down so many times and failed. I want to believe in myself again, I want to see a light at the end of this tunnel. Thank you so much, to you and all the brave posters here, that are making the light a bit more visible :)
