Hi I am a 1-1.5 bottle a night girl gradually increased from a glass every sat night since my a trauma last year. It's getting better now but the drinking hasn't so I decided to do something about it and was prescribed this online at pharmacy for u. I decided to start selincro last night took a pill at 5pm and started getting pins and needles nausea light headed etc about two hours later. Went to bed and continued to feel rough and was awake all night despite taking two sleeping pills. Got up today and feel as bad- was sick this morning and feel nausea and generally rough. I couldn't drink anything last night and haven't wanted food or drink today. Mouth is very dry so drinking water.
I feel like giving up and scared to take another pill.
Tomorrow we are going away for the rest of the weekend so Dont want to take any more as can't feel like this when supposed to be out socialising.
If I take a pill Monday will I feel like this again?
What should I do? Is this normal?

sorry to hear you're having a rough time of it. Selincro/Nalmefene seems to produce more side-effects than Naltrexone for some reason, & not being able to split the pill & work up to the full dosage doesn't help. the symptoms do generally pass after a week or so, but it can be an unpleasant week

I'm guessing that if you're buying from pharmacy2u that you're in the UK & are buying direct - ie not through a Doctor? if so, you might want to think about trying Naltrexone instead. the symptom tend to be milder, & you can start with 1/4 or 1/2 of a pill & work up to the full dose

I just paid £100 for these pills at pharmacy2u so wish I'd knew before that they would be so bad. I don't think I can face a week of this!
I was thinking of splitting them but you said you can't do this, why is this ?

I've never seen them myself, but I believe Selincro is a coated pill & that if you cut them up, there's potential for irritation to the parts of the digestive tract

it does affect people differently, but it sounds like you've had a particularly bad experience

I think I'll have a break until Monday and then take 1/3 of one pill. My stomache will have to suffer. I'll keep my progress posted

Casper - a lot of people have had bad reactions to their meds when they first take them. But the side effects may be worth getting the drinking under control. Hope the 1/3 pill works for you.

Method of administration:

Selincro is for oral use.
The film-coated tablet should be swallowed whole.
The film-coated tablet should not be divided or crushed because nalmefene may cause skin sensitisation when in direct contact with the skin (see section 5.3).

I wouldn't take the chance of cutting the table. I would reach out to someone at the "options saves lives forum" for there are a couple of people that are on it and JoAnna did an experiment with it so she could understand the side effects (at least I think it was this drug). If the manufacturer of the drug is stating not to cut it, I would not risk it.

I do think that the side effects slowly dissipate within a week, but if you cannot drink while on Selincro then there would not be extinction and that is the reason you are taking it.

If you do decide to cut the pill, maybe wear rubber gloves and try to keep it in a separate container.

Well, you can do that for the rest of your life if you keep drinking, or you can bite the bullet and suffer the equivalent of a few days worth of hangovers until you're acclimated to your Salincro.

Tough choice if you don't really want to quit.
