Hey folks. Just started Nal last week, and have been impressed. However, I find I'm really coughing a lot? I'm a smoker already, but this seems much worse than normal, a dry consistent cough, that comes on about 2.5 hrs after taking the 25mg?

Am I crazy, or is nal involved?

I've never heard of that before. Maybe try looking up the side effects of Naltrexone on the internet?

How is TSM going for you apart from the cough?

Nah, doesn't sound like it could be a naltrexone side effect to me (I've never heard of it, and also it doesn't really have a pulmonary effect as far as I've read). Probably just a coincidence. However, I HAVE noticed that I smoke less and it affects me more since taking nal. I'm just a social drinking smoker, but now I get massive smoking hangovers the day if I have six-seven cigarettes in an evening. I've heard that maybe naltrexone has kind of a crossover effect like Chantix on smoking ....

Well, I have a full-blown cold going on now, so maybe it was just coming on.

As for the crossover, I don't know, I took chantix for awhile in 2006, and that experience was one of the reasons I was concerned about Nal. I had unreal, and I mean unreal, dreams on chantix. Not so much nightmares, but dreams so bizarre I could not sleep after waking from them; often, on waking, I wouldn't be clear what was part of the dream and what was reality. I haven't had that side-effect on Nal.

As for how it's going, I'm very happy to say it's going terrific. I'm a habitual drinker, and though have been in many social circumstances and have been totally in control, just not interested. I had liquor last night, first time since starting Nal, and, even though it was good whiskey and good company, just wasn't driving it back like "usual."
