I think it is worthy of pointing out that people respond differently to naltrexone and just because you don't experience specific things, it doesn't mean TSM isn't working for you. Here's what the cured say:
*Naltrexone made me nauseous
*Naltrexone did not make me nauseous
*Leveled off at 25mg
*Leveled off at 50mg
*Leveled off at 75mg
*Leveled off at 100mg
*Experienced an initial severe decrease in units
*Experienced no initial severe decrease in units
*Alcohol no longer tastes good
*Alcohol still tastes good
*Units decreased steadily
*Units went up and down like a seesaw
*Initial buzz has disappeared
*No longer get buzzed, just feel dull or drunk
*Still get a buzz, but a different kind of buzz
*Still get a very nice buzz
*Wine, beer, scotch, to schnapps drinkers get cured (I'm not a scientist, but the extinguishing
occurring in the brain is for alcohol, I don't think it knows a grape from a grain).
*Binge-drinkers and daily drinkers, young and seasoned get cured
*Getting cured was a light switch moment
*Getting cured required some minor effort
*Cured in 3 months
*Cured in 6 months
*Cured in 8 months
*Cured in 15 months

I share the above with you because I recently heard from someone on my blog who was trying to help me, but made things worse by stating that "if alcohol still tastes good to you then it probably is not working for you." Not only is this not true, but it is potentially damaging information.

Dr. Eskapa believes that the cured rate is potentially much higher than 78% because in the lab it is a 100% cure rate! But when dealing with people, not rats, it gets complicated. Some people get discouraged and stop the program (it took one woman 15 months before she was cured...what if she stopped at month 14?!) and others don't follow the protocol (they forget to take naltrexone before they drink) and so on.

I think I can safely say that many naltrexone paths lead to being cured. So stay on your own unique path.

That was well worth posting Toxix girl, thank you. I think its worth noting as well that cured has different meanings for many people. Some abstain completly while others consider themselves cured and are quite happy to drink some alcohol under controll for the rest of their lives.

Your post should be required reading, TG. Probably should be on the package insert!

Great post TG. Now that you mention it I do remember saying each and every one of those things! And strangely they are all true.

Excellent and accurate post (except, nobody has likened me to a snowflake before). I like your research of all the things us "cured folk" have said and experienced. "Your mileage may vary".

I don't see any downside in continuing TSM for many months or years on Naltrexone, if it takes that long. Patience is the key. Other than that, wait, wait, wait and be cured.

Bob

I love your addition Bob. Thank you for continuing to hang out with those of us who are not quite yet on the other side of the mountain! xo

Thanks for giving those of us who are new to the program a map, convoluted though it may be, of the road to the cure. For the first time in decades, I'm actually optimistic that someday I'll be able to drink like most of my friends: when and where I feel like it, and not to excess. That dream seemed unattainable even a couple of months ago. After years of listening to people talk about alcoholism as a character flaw or a weakness in self-control, it's liberating to find that it's simply the result of a chemical reaction, that can be cured by blocking that reaction. I don't know why this program isn't being announced from rooftops.

Thank you for this post, it is so encouraging! I was wondering if anyone knows if what you eat makes any difference on the program..Has anyone had any experiences regarding diet? I have been on Nal since the 12th of January and it has been a rollercoaster.I have never missed a dose, and I have not managed an AF day yet.I am cruising at about 10 units a day, but my tolerance seems down and my hangovers seem worse.I am wondering if I should up my dose from 50 mg to 100?? Any help/advice is really appreciated.
