Caspar,

I had terrible side effect on Nal the first few days. Happily, I started taking 12,5 mg and now am OK. I am not knowledgeable about the drug you are taking, but you might have better time with Nal. It works and when you take a small dosage there are no SE. Good luck.

Wrong. And the main point. We do have a choice:

To always take the pill, to sometimes take the pill, to stop taking the pill.

That is the choice. Never have I said or inferred that we have a choice about our drinking.

I find it rather ironic that you're taking this attitude when your first ever post/thread on this forum was entitled "Clarion's Progress (Please Welcome Me)"-badger

Exactly. You'll note I did not title it "I am about to quit" which would add a certain amount of urgency, wouldn't you say?

Some of us stick and get well. Most however, are here today and gone the next. What happens to them?

In my experience, "tough love" only alienates. Unconditional love stands a chance.

Steve.

When you can define the line between unconditional love and enabling, you'll have a point.

in this case, they go to another forum, get a sympathetic, supportive welcome & stick around:

I'm really glad you've had such a positive outcome from TSM, & I understand that you're posting in good faith based upon your experience. however, projecting your experience onto others who are having a (much) tougher time of it isn't always helpful, particularly for scared, vulnerable newbies

Badger, there is good advice to be had on the options forum, but this site is significantly more active.

I know. but the welcome has been rather different. there's a link to the OSL thread above - where would you rather be as a newbie?

I think the difference was helpful reassurance vs judgemental crap. To a scared newbie looking for some hope. What are you even talking about "enabling"? That's just defensive BS.

I have to say that OSL did a much better job handling this newbies fears. I have been on that site recently arguing the benefits of this site and defending our honor. I am, however, much more impressed with Joanna and her professional attitude in this case than with us and ours. I don't feel we should be competing for members. But our objective should be to provide a safe place to seek help and guidance and support. Not to provide you with a stage for chest beating, judgemental, black or white, ten step, tough love crap. They can go to AA for that. Just sayin.
And thanks, Joanna. That one needed help and was very relieved to get it from you. We screwed up and could have lost her.
