I have only had one thought of not taking nal. I just wanted to finish one beer in my fridge last night and I thought "Well, crap. I have to take Naltrexone and wait an hour before having one beer??" I had a thought of just not taking it for just the one beer. But my better thinking won and I didn't have that beer without naltrexone. The thought of intermittent reinforcement and ruining the good thing I got going on here really stopped me from breaking that golden rule.

People say "alcoholics will just skip the pill, it's so easy". No, many of us won't. Because we don't want to go back and start over again. We are proud of ourselves for drinking less than we used to. We are happy that we can finally feel 'normal'! People may slip up and not take the pill, but they usually regret it. And how is that any different than those trying to abstain who fall off the wagon over and over?

Well done Sober! Proud of you for keeping the course and setting a good example. Never, ever violate the Golden rule. Applause...

This drives me nuts. Skipping the pill is easy, but you know what else is easy? Taking a pill. Much easier than trying to white-knuckle through cravings and avoid triggers for the next couple of years (or for life). The willpower it takes to take a pill is minuscule compared to abstaining "one day at a time", especially considering that with TSM the desire for alcohol begins to wane as opposed to abstaining where it actually intensifies - the scary metaphorical disease out in the parking lot doing push-ups.

OMG yes. Even in those early days when the addiction is still strong, we need conscious self-control for only long enough to swallow a pill -- much easier than "one day at a time."
