Hi, I started 25 m of Nal a day since Monday, Nov 2, an hour before drinking, I have felt like I have the flu, tired - WEIRD dreams. ( I have read that is common) I even called in sick to work today, thinking I may have a flu, but I think its the Nal. I have been in a zombie state all week, little-to-no appetite, and very weak. There is a chance that I could really have a cold or something - as well by coincidence. Well, I will keep on taking just 25 M an hour or so I drink. Until I feel I can tolerate 50.

Can anyone relate to this?

Yeah, that could definitely be the naltrexone. If it is it will pass quickly.

Hi John,

I felt very 'disassociated' from reality, extremely uncomfortably so, for my first three days on 25mg. On the fourth day I think I just thought 'I'm going to feel odd anyway so I may as well try 50mg'. It was a leap of faith, if you like. But the side effects were no worse really taking the full 50, and within a couple of days they were slight; a couple more days and I never noticed them anymore. So, I'd personally suggest trying a 50 after a few days on 25 and seeing how you go...you can always drop back down again.

These side effects are extremely fleeting for almost all of us, please don't be discouraged - it's a good sign I think that the Nal has an effect on you!!

All the best, please let us know how you go - keep us posted! :)

Hi John, hang in there we all have been through this stage and remember it's only a stage this will pass. Are you taking any supplements? If you're not eating a balance diet please go out and get some vitamins preferably a whole foods type of store. I've been taking opti liver for almost ten years now and it really helps your liver (always be kind to you liver which most of us can't do :D ) then try to get to 50mg when you can. You'll level off soon and then you're on your way.

Hang in there and be good to yourself!

All those side effects fade with time, some faster than others. The weird dreams seem to persist the longest.

After 8 months on Nal, I can pop 100 mg and not even notice anything after 2 hours. I had 3 beers last night, and waited 2 hours to see if I noticed any side effects at all after all this time, and, no, nothing.

Anyway, don't be too concerned about the initial side effects, they all go away eventually.

Bob

It's not the flu, it's the nal. I had the exact same symptoms. They go away almost immediately -- after three or four doses. The weird dreams may last a bit longer, as Bob states.

I just generally feel like crap everyday I take a Nal & drink. On my alcohol free mornings after I feel like I had the best sleep I've ever had. This is good - potentiates my selective extinction.

I took my first dose (50mg) of Naltrexone six hours ago, and I have a similar feeling. It feels a bit like I have been deprived of sleep and my head feels a little bit foggy. It must just be a part of the body adjusting to the drug.

working on my eight week and NAL still makes me feel like a zombie...don't understand why...I am 6 foot 220 pounds with a high tolerance for all drugs...don't get why NAL hits me so hard...oh well, It certainly keeps me working on AF days.

Yeah, but look at the wonderful results you have had! So Zombie or not you're heading towards your cure!!!!

I'm dizzy now on Naltrexone which I never experienced before - now that I can have many AF days and only drink when there is a social need, or to keep extinguishing triggers, I get dizzy. But I figure - hey, as I don't have to drive a semi down the 195 so what if I'm dizzy!! As long as naltrexone does its thing, I'm fine with it.
