I will be having a total knee replacement in 2 weeks and was concerned about the effects of Naltrexone on opoids used for pain management. Of course I will discontinue my 50 mg a day at least 72 hours prior to surgery, but my biggest concern is about the 6-week recovery period.

Since I will likely drink after recovery, I am worried that not taking the Nal will set me back to where I was in the beginning....thus, I did some research and found that some claim the Nal prevents the opoids from doing their work and patients end up in excruciating pain. Then I read about the opposite.

Here are several articles regarding low-dose (2-5mg) of naltrexone during pain management to actually ENHANCE the opoids.

http://pain-topics.org/clinical_concept ... ations.php

What is your take on this?....If you agree, and I take the low dose thru my doctor, might I be able to stay on course with TSM?

THANK YOU!
