Dear Dr Eskapa,
Sorry - another question from me.
It occurred to me that, as I am withdrawing from a benzo (clonazepam), is there not a possibility - probability even - that my alcohol intake will increase to compensate for the reduction in GABA brought about by the progressively lowered dosage of clonazepam?
As I have GAD, I rely on alcohol to some extent to keep my anxiety spikes in check. Although it's not always obvious, the clonazepam is also fulfilling the same function; after all, that's why my psychiatrist first prescribed it for me. It therefore makes sense to me that if I take clonazepam 'out of the equation', there could be a greater reliance on alcohol.
I look forward to your valued reply.
Thank you.
V.
