Hi everyone

I am still trying to find the name of the test which I can have to see if I have the gene which caused Nal not to work with me. Apparently it was listed on MWO, but I can't find MWO  - where will I find it, please?

By the way, for those who asked, I was taking 50mg of Nal every day.

Lastly, has anyone had any success by supplementing their diet with vitamins B, C, etc? I am thinking very seriously of going this route, and any information would be most welcome.

Best wishes to you all.

Hi Jeanette. Here is the link to MWO (My Way Out) http://www.mywayout.org/community/f20/

There are alot of people on that site that can probably help you out. Also, MWO has a forum dealing with Natural remedies to help curb cravings and even sell the necessary supplements for it through their health store. You might want to read the book as well. It can be bought and downloaded from the site.

Hope that helps :)

Re: Larry's question

I can answer about the genes. The opioid antagonists can be effective regardless of whether the alcoholic has a family history of alcoholism. There probably are genetic factors that affect whether the method works, but they are not necessarily related to the ease of developing alcoholism. For example, theoretically one might have a gene that makes the GABA particularly sensitive and at risk for alcoholism. (We suspect that most people develop alcoholism through activation of the opioidergic system, but there is a minority who develop it through some other system, most likely GABA).

David

PS GABA is the system the benzodiadepines like valium/diazepam effect. Alcohol affects thus system as well

hope this was helpful. and bump you naltrexone to 100mg and start over.
