That's the traditional way of prescribing it, johnbern. The trouble is that the studies and clinical reports tell us that it doesn't work much better than placebo when used that way (that is, take one per day while remaining abstinent).

Have you read The Cure for Alcoholism?

read the book. it does a nice job of explaining how Nal was originally used and some history of why it has the stature (or lack of it) in the US.
