Brittany -

Got one right in your hood. See the list:

http://www.cthreefoundation.org/find-a-physician.html

and scroll down to Missouri. Verified TSM doc!

BTW, GoodRx.com will get you a discount on the Nal, $39 for 30 pills at Target. Says there's a "Membership Warehouse" where you can get them for $28, but won't say the name. They have a smartphone app you can use too.

I'm so frustrated. Today was finally the day of my appointment with the addiction doctor. I took a personal day from work and drove 30 minutes, and when I arrived, I found that they had closed the office for the day without even notifying me! We got about an inch of snow today, so apparently that is a reason to close a doctor's office?

Honestly, I wasn't excited about seeing this doctor anyway since he is not a Sinclair devotee. So I think I may just buy the pills online and continue the same dose so I don't have to deal with him. What does everyone think of that idea?

Note: the addiction doc that stood me up is not the doctor that Joe mentioned in a previous post. Just wanted to make sure I wasn't bad mouthing the wrong doc :-)

The reason I would consider just managing this issue myself by getting the pills online, instead of just going to the addiction doctor that Joe suggested, is because it is really hard for me to get time off work for medical appointments.

Well, it could be an advantage having a TSM doc on your side, plus the Nal is cheaper that way. Maybe give the other doc a shot? Cheeto got stuck without her Nal on a trip south of the border, it didn't come at the usual time. That's another instance when having the Rx could be handy. Maybe order some Nal online and check out the other doc too, see what the fees are and if it makes sense to you. Quite a few here do use only ADC though, and I can certainly understand the work constraints.

Brittany,

I am so sorry that happened to you. Doesn't it make you want to charge the doctor for his missed visit with you? I know if you missed that visit with him there would have been a charge and it needed to be cancelled within 24 hour or more.

If you can afford the cost of ordering the nal on line, go for it. There are a lot of people that do not want AUD on their medical records for it will follow them for the rest of their lives; however, if you feel you need the guidance and counseling that can come from an addiction doctor, finding one that works for you would be your best option. I want to prewarn you that most addiction doctors/counselors will advise AA and or some form of ABS type meetings, which just doesn't work for the majority and a lot feel uncomfortable going to those meeting while following TSM.

If you can afford the cost of ordering it on line, and feel counseling will help you, maybe reach out to JoAnna at the C-3 to see if she could help you. She has certification in AUD counseling (or something like that) and will helping anyone using the Sinclair Method (just a suggestion).

Keep us posted,

Jaba

If you cannot find a doctor you are comfortable with I think you have enough experience and knowledge to order online and continue with TSM on your own. We are here for you!! Newlife

Thanks for the thoughts all!

I did buy some online... Jaba, I sent you a message since I am not sure who Joanna is or how to contact her... but I would like continued professional guidance if I can get it but I do not like having my prescription hanging on the whim of a doctor.

The doc's office was closed today too (I guess Thursday is their normal day off since they work Saturdays instead) but I am very much planning on calling them tomorrow and complaining. That was a huge pain.

" That was a huge pain."

Dragissimo!

Joanna@CThreeEurope.com is a certified alch counselor. Over in the UK, IF people can work their way through the NHS to get Nalmefene (Selincro), there's often a counseling requirement attached to it. CThree Europe kindly volunteers to offer formal counseling for these folks, if their area alcohol treatment facility doesn't, so they can get Selincro and start on TSM. Joanna and Claudia also offer informal counseling for non-UK/EU TSM'ers via email.

Selincro is a drug that works much like Naltrexone and supposedly blocks more types of opioid receptors than Naltrexone does, although the side effects can be rather harsh. Still, like Naltrexone, some take it and notice no side effects at all. Selincro is prescribed for those that exceed UK/EU standards of moderate drinking and was basically created for that purpose. Once you drop back down into the moderate range, no more Selincro. Well, by that time, you may well have learned about Naltrexone and how to get it, so you can continue on with TSM (just not via NHS).

I called my doc and pitched a small fit for the inconvenience on Wednes... I didn't actually speak to him but with someone in the front office, and that person apologized and said they would give me as many refills as they could. So good. I think I'm going to continue filling/using all prescription refills that I was given and then keep the ones I bought online as backup in case anything goes wrong.
