Yeah, the traditional questions that are asked regarding "are you an alcoholic?" are laughable. I know people who go to work every day and have never had a DWI. But on every Friday and Saturday night their blood alcohol level is over .20, they black out entire evenings and if 50% of their urine ends up in the toilet, it's a good day. But they show up to work and haven't killed themselves or anyone else, so they "don't have a problem."

The myth of the skid row drunk is as old and outdated as the notion that we boozers suffer from some moral affliction and should have been discarded with the telegram. What a complete joke that if you show up to work and pay your bills you don't have a problem. But even today, that is the measure by the vast majority in society.

You are in the right place: there are plenty of "HFAs" in here.

Welcome.

My best,

Minneapolisnick

Hello,

I relate much myself to your story and conditions, I am also a high tech international exec living in Austin, I manage the company and the sales portion for the majority of high level deals, so I travel much and "entertain" clients a lot, we operate mostly in Mexico and South Ameruca, and man, we latino execs like to party and spend in fine restaurants.
I also have a nice house (not a million bucks although) a nice family, pay (most) of my bills, and never had a DWI, even tough I stupidly had driven many times certainly above the legal limit, I guess I have had a lot of luck... I regret the risk I had undertaken with great remorse and the impact upon my family of dad being most often "tired" (actually suffering terrible hangovers) and "busy" (I am also kinda workaholic).

Yes I am a HFA, but I realize I will be able to function much better without the booze!

That's my hope to thrive!!

I want to thank you very much for sharing your story, I realize has been a while since your last post, please update the board about how you are doing!!

Happy NEW year to all reading this post
