Reading through some of the posts on this forum it seems there are some very well informed participants so my hope is that I can get some help. Here is my situation:

I had a false start with NAL because it was initially prescribed by a misinformed practitioner. This person was of the NAL + Abs mindset and I thought NAL + Drink = no pleasure. From what I understand, we were both wrong because I got my hands on the Eskapa book and learned the correct protocol for TSM. Initially I was taking 50mg of NAL in the morning and could swear the first time I drank on NAL I experienced a revulsion and stopped after about 4-5 drinks (placebo effect perhaps?). But then after a day or so I was right back to my old get drunk, fall down, pass out routine (7-10 drinks). So I concluded that NAL did not work for me and quit taking it. Mind you, aside from a 2 day bender in February, and the last 3 weeks of experimenting with NAL, I have not had a drink since 12/7/13. I figured abstinence was the only route for me. Ah, but summer comes around and the BBQs and my resistance goes to hell. Long story short, I read the Eskapa book 2 days ago, went to my doctor yesterday and conveyed the correct protocol i.e. NAL + Drink = Cure and convince her to prescribe more NAL. I couldn't wait to start drinking yesterday just so I could begin my experiment and here I sit today anxious and depressed because I made a fool of myself with my wife and daughter and don't remember most of the evening. I know it takes time but, should I have experienced a black out session following the NAL 1 hour before protocol? I still get very high when I drink. Now I'm wondering if I need to ask for a higher dosage. Is it just too early to see a difference? It's a strange phenomena where I feel compelled to drink just so I can be successful with TSM when really, I just should not be drinking at all because I have no control. I am now in the midst of a bender. I know I'm on a bender when I reach the threshold of needing a drink in the early afternoon just so I don't have to feel the withdrawal effects. And it is a tormenting hell.

Any suggestions from the winners out there are much appreciated.

Day 1 on NAL - 1 pint of Yukon Jack and a couple of beers. :-( Please tell me it gets better!

Not to worry bro. You did exactly what this protocol demands. Just be patient and stay the course. We are all different and respond different. But your actions were no different then what the majority of us have done. Congrats on the results of your investigation, your ambition to follow it through and try again. This time you are armed with the correct understanding of how nal is used. It will be a completely different ball game. Please do yourself, me and future participants of the TSM protocol a favor. Follow the Golden rule, monitor your drinks and desire to drink. Report back to us on at least a weekly basis your weekly results and how you feel. Recovery or no recovery, we need your information to get this life saving protocol out there. I'm betting you win, who wouldn't take a bet with an 80% chance of success? You can do it, don't overthink it. Peace

You shouldn't still be getting high when drinking after taking a naltrexone, so you may need a larger dose. There is a phenomenon that some have reported where they can bypass the effects of naltrexone by drinking too quickly, which is what I suspect may have happened yesterday, since black outs are caused not by the amount of alcohol per se, but by how fast you ingest it. Also, your first experience of taking naltrexone in the morning and drinking later sounds like a typical response to drinking on naltrexone (it sucks).

It takes a while for the "cure," but the naltrexone itself should work within an hour, unlike some drugs that take weeks to take effect.

My suggestions are to first try drinking more slowly (or on a full stomach or weaker beverages) after taking 50mg of naltrexone and waiting an hour. If you're still getting high, upping the dose would be my next move.

I think you'll be just fine. It is no fun at all at first, but I can tell you that it's worth it and that being indifferent to alcohol is an absolutely wonderful state of affairs. Keep us posted. I'm looking forward to seeing you on the cured list.

Just take that naltrexone one full hour before drinking *every time* you drink. I wish you the best! Keep us posted
