I have been on Antabuse for about 5 years. I go off it four times a year while on vacation. Two or three times a year the cravings become so intense I pretend to take the pill, but don't and start drinking again. My wife catches me in no time.

Will the TSM method work for me? My wife is very nervous and my therapst says I need to be more honest with myself before trying "in her words" an experiment.

Well, what if you continued the antabuse, which for the most part seems to be working, but took a Nal on those few occasions when you do drink? best of both worlds. it may take a long time, but everytime you DO slip, it should work for you not against you in the long run. maybe she's right. maybe this is an excuse to drink. but if you MUST drink, as a drinker who has had a hard time quitting myself, I can say that I would NEVER drink without NAl

Joe thats an interesting post.

Because think about it......from what we know the neural pathways stay superhighways (I don't know if I agree)

My point is,...I think the reason he freaks every time is because he's only stopping traffic on the 405 in LA. The highway remains...hence the crazy cravings...

Just a thought...Best, jim

Sorry being a postaholic,...trying to staY TO MY LIMIT and this helps believe it or not

Yes, consider trying TSM.

Why? Antabuse doesn't cure anything. Look at yourself. Months, years go by and still the cravings are overpowering at times. TSM has the potential to eliminate those cravings once and for all.

TSM doesn't work for everybody. But for those it works for, it's a miracle.

Start by reading the book by Eskapa - The Cure for Alcoholism.

I was sober on Antabuse for 10 months, but switched to TSM and Naltrexone because I knew a relapse was coming. These 6 months on Naltrexone, if I felt like I was getting out of control, some weeks I would take an Antabuse on Monday or Tuesday morning. I'd stay sober for a few days, then go back to Naltrexone for the weekend. This has worked well for me. I find that just recently, after 6 months, I haven't needed the Antabuse - the craving just isn't there. It used to be that if i didn't take Antabuse, I WAS going to drink, no question. TSM works.

Thenational, I'm adding you to our "regained control" list. Let me know if you object and if so, I'll take you off.

If I were in your shoes, I would print off some of the studies from the sources listed in The Cure for Alcoholism. From reading through the posts here, I found most physicians and therapists are almost willfully ignorant of what the Sinclair Method is and why it works. Your therapist called this an “experiment,” TSM is hardly that. There have been many studies arriving at nearly identical conclusions.

I would buy the book read it and share this with my wife. I would print the other documents as well. I think all the facts should be taken into account, and maybe it would help if everyone understood antabuse causes increased cravings. Alcoholism is the only addiction I know of where doctors torture their patients with drugs that increase cravings for the addicted substance.

When I went for my prescription, I had all these documents in a folder, with colored separators and a cover sheet outlining why I thought I was a good candidate and my plan for using naltrexone. I still had to fend off a solution I am not comfortable with.

I wish you the very best, whatever treatment program you choose for your situation.

For your convenience, I will list the major link I used (COMBINE study) and the other information here;

COMBINE study from Journal of American Medical Association, this link takes you directly into the document for printing.
http://jama.ama-assn.org/content/295/17 ... l.pdf+html

I would go to the Cure for Alcoholism page and print the letter for doctors and the list of studies at the bottom of the page.
