I was watching CNBC this morning and the CEO of Orexigen Theraputics was being interviewed about a combination drug used to treat obesity. The combination drug, called Contrave, was just approved by an FDA Advisory Panel, based on initial success in clinical trials. He said Contrave combines an anti-depressant with an anti-addiction drug with a 25 year history. THAT got my attention!

I immediately went online see what those two drugs are, and one of them is Naltrexone (the other is Wellbutrin.) Just thought you all might find that as interesting as I did.

Hi Jane! I've missed you and everyone here too! I have been frustrated with my progress (or lack thereof) and needed to take some time away. For some reason, I felt like I wanted to stay away till I actually had a good week to report. :-( I was also really busy around the Thanksgiving holiday and feeling overwhelmed around the house. I'll update my weekly progress soon ....

I have been on TSM nearly 3 months and I've lost 7 pounds! I feel a tiny bit nauseous nearly all the time and even when I'm hungry I get full quickly. On the other hand my drinking has barely gone down at all. But I'm not complaining.

Hi Ladies! I feel kinda bad for Dr. Sinclair when I see another group is marketing a product using Nal for weight loss. His group, Lightlake, is trying to get something going too. Last I heard they were doing a 6-month trial. Nothing new on their web page last time I looked. I'd sure hate him to miss the boat on this...he was going with a nasal spray approach - spray, eat that Danish, no buzz, no more Danish, lose weight!!

My Way Out/TOPA boasts weight loss. I've been on it for 8 weeks. I lost about 5 pounds before starting it and I haven't really lost any weight while on it but I've kept off the 5-6 pounds because it really has kept my appetite down and I've kept taking the nal at the same time.

Contrive doesn’t work in the belly. It works in the hypothalamus, the brain’s central thermostat that controls appetite, temperature, and how the body burns energy.

Naltrexone has applications for all sorts of conditions. Now a lot of weightloss when an alcoholic stops drinking (or cuts back) is a direct result of the dead, empty kcals being removed from the equation. Add to this the ability to train consistently and eat a healthy diet (we all know how eating junk often goes hand in hand with drinking alcohol), and it's obvious fatloss is going to occur.

I have lost a significant amount last year after starting TSM, and have gotten myself into very good condition (very lean verging on 6 pack) as a result of all of the above.

I do think however that Nal has helped me control some of my binge eating, I find the urges pass more easily and if I do have one or two bad things I soon get bored - just like the drinking. My conclusion is that Nal could help overeaters, those with binge or comfort eating issues and bulimics.

Now fully in control, alcohol no longer bothers me. Chose to go AF from 22nd July 2013.
