Sounds like the answer is no. You can order naltrexone online without a prescription from All Day Chemist and River Pharmacy.

Keep looking - it may take a few phone calls. Psychiatrists who claim to be "addiction specialists" may be the ones. There are a few others on here from TX so hope you find something as online pharmacies seem exhorbitantly expensive - Good luck!

The issue of ordering naltrexone online is discussed extensively in this thread.

On the Sinclair Method Doctors thread, I posted a link to a directory of Suboxone doctors at the suggestion of Dr. Eskapa. He thought that because Suboxone (used to treat opioid dependency) has properties similar to naltrexone, these docs might be more likely to "get" TSM and prescribe nal for that purpose. There are many in the Dallas area if you want to give it a shot. Here's what I found:
http://heretohelpprogram.com/treatment/ ... &radius=60

Remember, we don't know whether these docs understand TSM. Dr. Eskapa thought it might be worth a shot to explain it to them and get them to prescribe.

All, Thanks for the replies. The Suboxone approach seems logical to me, too.

In looking at AllDayChemist vs River I noticed that AllDay has lower unit prices but only sells in sets of 10, rather than the 30 / 60/ 90, etc that River sells.

How is AllDay less expensive, or are they really? Do they charge more for the shipping? Is there a limit?

Thanks

Hi Ready,
Many psychiatrists will give you an Rx for nal if you just tell them you drink too much and wondered if there was a medication to help you cut down. My dr. prescribed it my first visit, and this was well before I was aware of TSM. They prescribe it to reduce cravings (and supposedly you're not supposed to be drinking, according to most dr's protocol). Obviously, it didn't work for me that way. Once I discovered TSM, though, I gave some info to my dr. about it and she was slightly curious but very skeptical -- as she remains today. So, I just tell her it's working great, I've cut way down on my drinking, blah blah just to keep getting my refills. I am seeing progress at Week 15 and I know I will continue to do so, albeit very slowly. Hope this helps, and good luck!

Thanks a lot for the tip! I think I am hearing that in general, psychiatrists are the better type of doctors to approach for the nal scrip.

Yes, that's right. And don't say, "I want naltrexone so I can drink on it." You are way better off saying something like, "I want to take naltrexone to treat my drinking habit. I don't intend to continue drinking." A slight bend in the truth, but not really, some day you will no longer intend to continue drinking. ;) As Eskapa says over and over again, naltrexone doesn't work with abstinence -- you have to be drinking while on naltrexone for TSM to work. But most doctors don't like the idea of continued drinking so you may have to spout the party line about intending abstinence in order to get the prescription.

Also, keep in mind that General Practitioners are now authorized to prescribe naltrexone as indicated in this recent New York Times article. http://www.nytimes.com/2009/05/12/healt ... one&st=cse

I was able to persuade my GP to prescribe naltrexone by giving her Eskapa's book and a copy of this article. If you have a trusting relationship with your GP, she/he would probably do the same.
