Hi Virgil -- I see now have a fellow U.K'r on this site -- Ashl. He mail-ordered his naltrexone. It seems to be especially tough to find an m.d. in the U.K. How about the one in the article you posted? have you mail-ordered? |

Hi lena, Many thanks for your reply, which is greatly appreciated. Also, hello to Ashl - it's good to know that I'm not the only person here from old Blighty. It looks as though I may be making some progress finding a doctor that would be prepared to prescribe naltrexone provided that my liver function test results are not through the roof! I shall know the answer to this within the next hour. The doctor in question is aware of the Sinclair Method. I thought I'd discovered a gem yesterday when I stumbled across ContrAl Clinics on the internet. They're based in Finland and they used to have three clinics dotted around the UK. I contacted them in Finland but was told that all three UK clinics have folded. ContrAl use the Sinclair Method. Every now and then, I get really disheartened in my search for a Sinclair Method practitioner but I will not give up! V. |

My brother is addicted to alcohol and has just spent a huge amountof money on a rehab clinic which hasn't worked. I would urge you to contact N.I.C.E the organisation which would authorise/license the use of Naltrexone for alcoholism. If you go on their site www.nice.org.uk you can download a topic suggestion form and email it to them. I have also writen to my MP to look into this. |

Hi, can advise that my psychiatrist was fine to give me a scrip for naltrexone - and it was even on the NHS! So there seems to be no problem re licensing, etc. Good Luck! |

Hi Folks, Thanks for all the replies. I now have an appointment for next Monday (16 March) with Dr Berkowitz (see Dr Eskapa's thread in this section of the forum). I'll report back on how it goes. Fingers crossed! V. |

soberwithin wrote: Does anyone know why the three clinics closed? soberwithin, When I contacted ContrAl in February this year, their e-mail reply simply read "At the moment there are, unfortunately, no clinics in the UK which use the ContrAl Method as a treatment for alcohol addiction. We used to have three franchised clinics in the UK but they are not any more running". If you want to pursue the matter further, their e-mail address is contral@contral.com. Good luck! V. |
