***I did not tell him I want to use Nal as recommended by TSM***
I cold-called this office and said I was "interested in Naltrexone to assist in my recovery from alcohol." Nice staff, pleasant doc. Told him I want to treat this issue of drinking via all aspects of the person: behaviorally (counseling), spiritually (AA, church), emotionally (support, relationships), lifestyle choices (activities, etc.), physically (Nal), etc. Told him I did lots of research on Nal. He asked if I was interested in Campral. I said I would like to try Nal since "it should cut down on cravings, and if I do relapse 'nothing happens'--it blocks the euphoria and eliminates opioidergic reinforcement."
$150 self-pay, 25 minute visit = script for 30ct Nal (50mg) w/1 refill, script for liver function test, $80 follow-up appt in a month.
