I want to add some background as to the conversation I had with Dr. Mencher when describing TSM.
I have been seeing him for a few months and I have been very impressed with his approach and thoughtfulness in caring for me.
Yesterday, July 27, 2009, I went into his office with a print out of the wikipedia page of TSM and a print out of the studies posted on this bb. I described to him the process of extinction and explained my great hope for this to work. He had actually suggested I do some research on naltrexone and consider it as part of my plan for clearing up my drinking problem. That's when I stumbled upon this bb. I ordered the book, read it, and proceeded to create a plan for talking with my doctor.
When I told him I was excited about it, he exclaimed, "I'm excited about it!"
And there you have it.
I'm planning a move in the next few weeks to another part of the country and he offered to help me find a new psychiatrist, but added that he couldn't guarantee we would find a doctor that was "adaptive." Regardless, I am immensely grateful for his assistance in this to date.
Also, my insurance actually wouldn't cover the naltrexone, so I paid out of pocket. A pittance of what I would spend weekly on booz.
