Hi...I just spoke with my internist (who is my basic healthcare guy) and he prescribed nal for me on a continuing basis. He was non-judgemental and did his homework on nal and TSM before our appointment and was very comfortable in giving me a prescription for nal. I asked him if I could recommend him on this message board and he said I could. However, he will only prescribe IF THE PATIENT IS SERIOUS ABOUT USING IT TO LESSEN/CONTROL THEIR DRINKING! He has had patients who want prescriptions for certain anti-narcotics that can be abused. The only way to abuse nal is to use it to drink more which I guess some people do. He won't tell you to stop drinking but will ask if maybe you want to have a liver ultrasound to see if the liver is scarred. He does recommend ceasing alcohol altogether if there is damage.
