Hello - I am trying to find a licensed physician in the South Bay or East Bay sections of the San Francisco Bay Area who will prescribe Naltrexone, i.e.: Oakland, Milpitas, Fremont, Livermore, San Jose, Sunnyvale, Mountain View, you name it. Lots and lots of cities around here; surely one of them has a doctor who will write me a prescription.

I read Roy Eskapa's book and am enthusiastic/hopeful, but was dismayed at the resistance I got from my own long-time personal physician when I presented the material to her. I was also bewildered to have received an email response from Roy Eskapa himself telling me, "I do not know anyone in your area who would prescribe naltrexone for you."

Today I placed a couple of voice mails with local physicians whom I was told would "probably" prescribe it, but they haven't returned my calls yet. If they are cooperative, I will certainly post their names and contact info here, pending their approval.

So that is my dilemma. If any of you know of any South or East Bay doctors who will prescribe this medication for me, I would appreciate it if you would post that info here.

Best wishes.

ScatMan

Hello Cindi Z -

Thank you for the information.
I tried The River Pharmacy online just now, but the website is going through maintenance, so I will have to wait.

Next, I searched for "drugnet," also per your recommendation, and came up with two:

1. http://www.drugnet.net: this site seems to offer nothing but crap information about various "treatment centers" which I have no interest in.

2. http://www.EDrugnet.com: this IS a proper online pharmacy who DOES offer Nal HCl for sale (brand name: Revia). They're certainly not giving it away: $140.00 for 28 pills...!
Is this the site you bought yours from?

So please clarify which website exactly you were referring to when you said "drugnet," and thanks again for responding! Also thanks for the encouraging word. Feel free to stay in touch, and let me know how things go for you after your week one.

Best wishes.

Hello Mario,

Wow, thank you! I don't know anything about generics in India versus USA brands, but I took a chance, went to All Day Chemist and found the 10 tabs of Nal for $16.80 deal that you mentioned.
The website states that the Indian manufacturer is Intas Pharmeceuticals (versus Depade or Revia which are the US brands). Regardless, all are 50 mg tabs.
There were other good testimonials on the Internet about All Day Chemist, so I am giving them a try.

Best of luck to you, and thank you for sharing this information!

Stay in touch if you wish, and let me know how you are doing.

Hello Mario, Cindy Z, et al,

I finally received my NAL in the mail from River Pharmacy. I have one more question for you both: how far in advance of drinking do you take a pill? 30 minutes? 60? Please advise.

Thanks.

Hi to Scatman, you ALWAYS follow golden rule which is.. NAL & DRINKING=CURE. Always take Nal 1hr. before drinking alcohol. Good Luck

Hello Jane,

Thank you for the clarification. I took my first ever tablet of Nal yesterday afternoon after the craving began. I started in on a beer only 33 minutes later.
I'll try to make it 60 minutes in advance from now on. I'm also going to keep a drinking diary, since I see others here doing that in their posts.

Best wishes.

Hi Scat, I keep a journal at home. I can usually remember how much I've imbibed. Even on binge nights, all I need to do is look in the recycle bin! dead give away! I see where many of you are holding down jobs. That is good, keeping busy helps. I am a retired Postal Worker (somewhat disgruntled). I had to get up at 3:30AM to catch the 4AM mail truck. Unloaded 18 wheelers sometimes 10 hrs. a day. I am a small woman & it was tough work. But dispite the hangovers I made it in none-the-less. After retiring, of course the drinking escalated. I found a part-time job that I like & that has helped. I also found that I had been putting waaaay too much focus on the program. So decided to just "let it happen". I've been THIS long what's a few mos. or even a yr. at this point? I do try to think it out & plan for nites out, things like that. does'n always work, but helps a lot. For me anyway. I know how hard t is believe me. Hang in there with everything you have, when things look bleak, it can only mean there is only one way, & that is up!
My Best to You,
JANE
